The students were introduced to the technique of wire wrapping. This technique is used when you wish to design a “cage” for your pendant. The wire is wrapped around the pendant to create a cage holding the pendant securely. Wire wrapping introduces the design element of Line. When watching this Wire Wrapping video you will understand how important Line is to a finished pendant design.

The students will start with copper wire—it is more malleable—then if they master copper they can graduate to nickel. The students will be using pliers to bend and twist the wire. They can add beads to the design if they so desire.

Ms. Burns introduced the technique of wire wrapping by showing images, demonstrating the technique and emailing them the link to watch on their Chromebooks or phones, while they work with the materials.
